Children are at the center of the Kingdom of God!
As we teach children, at home and in the church, we do not give them our understanding of God; rather, we guide them as they reshape their God in the light of what they learn from us and in their ever expanding life experiences. ~ Joining Children of the Spiritual Journey: nurturing a Life of Faith by Stonehouse
Our Children’s Ministry offerings include:
Faith Formation Classes (preschool – grade 5) (September-May) Classes are led by loving volunteer teachers who have been trained in Safe Church. They prepare lessons using materials provided by and for the Episcopal Church. Classes are determined by the ages of the children. They meet from 10:15 until 11:00 at which time they join their families at worship during the 10:30 church service.
Tuesday Story & Song (birth-Preschool) (September -May) Story & Song is held from 5:00 to 5:30 on Tuesdays. (the same time that the children’s choir meets) It is a time for little ones, accompanied by a parent, to hear a few stories and sing a few songs. At 5:30 these participants join the children’s choir and their parents for pizza in the Social Hall.
Vacation Bible School (June) VBS is held at First Presbyterian in conjunction with several other Christian churches in Ann Arbor. It is typically held the week after Ann Arbor Schools dismiss for the summer.
Children’s Church (10:00 Summer Service) After the opening prayer, during the 10:00 summer service, children accompanied by two adult leaders, process out to gather in the family room. They hear the Bible Readings of the day in a child friendly version, and one of the leaders shares a prepared refection about the Readings. There is time for questions, answers, and prayers before they return to the church for Communion.
