In conjunction with our Immigration Sunday, we wanted to share the sign that is now on our doors (with thanks to TBE for creating a more permanent one). Welcoming the stranger and compassion for all, regardless of documentation or ethnicity or race, is central to both faiths practiced in this building, and I know it’s a value we all hold incredibly tightly here together, as a congregation and as a Genesis community. We do know that ICE continues to operate in Washtenaw County, and that some of our neighbors have been detained, and many are afraid to leave their homes due to the excesses of ICE actions. This is one way to signal our welcome, solidarity, and commitment to making our building, and particularly our food pantry, as safe as it can be for all people. Please continue to pray for all those who are affected, for our congregations as we seek to uphold dignity and care for all our neighbors during this time. Join us on Sunday for the forum or keep your eye out for ways to support our immigrant neighbors that continue to emerge.
