Sunday, May 4, at the 10:30 service
On May 4, we’re turning the tables at the 10:30 service: the kids will meet upstairs in the sanctuary and the grownups will use the classrooms for Church School! Several options will be available. Joining via Zoom? We’ll have a Bible study option for you!
Join the service as usual at 10:30 a.m., onsite in the sanctuary or online. We’ll begin with our opening hymn and collect, then the adults will process out while the kids will stay put. We’ll rejoin each other at the Peace and continue with communion in the sanctuary.
These Upside Down options are available.
- Exploring the Risen Christ—In rooms 4&5, join David Laurance to explore, to notice, to consider where the risen Christ is showing himself in the world around us. We’ll start with today’s Gospel story (John 21:1–19). We’ll sit with the disciples as they encounter Jesus by the Sea of Tiberias, reflect on what they might have seen and felt in that early morning, and reflect on where we might find Christ in the world around us.
- Healing Prayer—In rooms 9&10, explore healing prayer with Rev. Toby. The Bible is full of descriptions of miraculous healing of illnesses and injuries, but so often in the modern world people who claim to have God-given healing powers are scammers in disguise. Yet Jesus and the prophets set the example of healing prayer for us. What might it mean to us today, and how might it affect our lives?
- Baptism—In the Core, join Eliza Nuxoll for a Godly Play story about baptism. When you’re invited to “remember your Baptism or Baptism-to-be”, what do you see, hear, feel, or imagine? A candle, a cupped hand with cold water, the lingering scent of chrism oil? In Godly Play’s “Holy Baptism”, we will explore the symbols of this holy covenant, learn what they represent, and wonder what they mean– for us, for our church, and for our life together. Then, as in Children’s Chapel, we will respond to the story through art, Godly Play materials, books, songs, and more.
- Psalms—In the Chapel, John Goodell will share a selection of sung and chanted Psalms.
- What’s In a Name? For our participants on Zoom, Paul Holman will lead a reflection on the two unusual stories about names in Sunday’s readings (Acts 9:1-20; John 21:1–19).
