I don’t know about you, but I’ve probably spent more time in the past year reflecting on the nature and fragility of democracy than most other years of my life. It’s a tough time to watch what’s unfolding in the world, and to be a part of the political process in our country.
So, this year, I am feeling some extra gratitude for the democratic aspects of our life together as a congregation. At our annual meeting this Sunday, we get to gather and decide together about important things like who will represent the congregation in leadership. We get to vote on our bylaws, the ways we govern ourselves. Careful work has been done by many people to prepare for this meeting, and to steward the opportunity for us to make decisions together. I’m grateful for those who are keeping our congregation strong in this way, and those in previous generations who have done the same.
And because we’re a spiritual community, we’ll also have a chance to reflect on the past year together, to celebrate what has been during this extra-ordinary year, and to look together toward the future. Everyone will have a chance to participate and share some reflections if you wish! I hope you’ll join this Sunday at 1pm.
