St. Clare’s is teaming up with Washtenaw Indivisible to host what we hope will be a series of educational but fun Salons for Democracy. Much like eighteenth century salons, we will have history presentations, discussions about social justice, craft workshops, music and other performances, all designed to expand our awareness of what the Semiquincentennial means, and how our history, both good and bad, impacts us as US citizens–and in our case, as Episcopalians. The first of these events will be August 2nd in the sanctuary at St. Clare’s, from 6:00-9:00 pm. The theme for the first of these salons is “The Flag is STILL There.” We will have skits, presentations on the history of the US flag, discussions about flag etiquette, a performance by Singing Resistance Washtenaw, and much more.
